Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026
Waqti ("we", "our", or "the app") is a free Islamic prayer companion app. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, the legal basis for processing, and your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable laws.
1. Data Controller
The data controller responsible for your data is:
Erdem Özgedik
Email:
erdemozgedik@icloud.com
2. Data We Collect
- Location data — collected once during onboarding (city, country, latitude/longitude) to calculate prayer times. Stored locally on your device and sent to the Aladhan API solely to retrieve accurate prayer times.
- Device locale — to auto-detect your preferred language. Not transmitted to any server.
- User preferences — prayer calculation method, notification settings, theme preference. Stored locally on your device using encrypted storage (expo-secure-store).
- Pseudonymous identifier (UUID) — a randomly generated ID created on first launch and stored encrypted on your device. Used solely to associate error reports in Sentry with a consistent session. It is not linked to any personal information and cannot be used to identify you.
- Error and crash data — if the app crashes or encounters an error, diagnostic information (error message, stack trace, device model, OS version, app version, breadcrumb trail of in-app actions) is sent to Sentry. Your location context (city and country) may be included.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email, or any account information.
- We do not track your usage behavior for advertising purposes.
- We do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
- We do not collect background location data.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR Article 6)
- Location data sent to Aladhan API — Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): necessary to provide the core functionality of the app (accurate prayer times).
- Error data sent to Sentry — Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): necessary to identify and fix bugs to maintain a stable and secure app experience.
- Google Maps / Places data — Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): necessary to provide the mosque finder feature.
5. Third-Party Services
- Aladhan API (aladhan.com) — your city, country, and timezone are sent to retrieve prayer times. No personally identifiable information is included. See their Privacy Policy.
- Google Maps & Google Places (Google LLC, USA) — used to display nearby mosques and provide location search. Google may collect device and IP information. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA) — used for error tracking and crash reporting. Sentry receives error reports containing device information, your pseudonymous UUID, and location context (city/country). Sentry stores this data on servers in the United States. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
6. International Data Transfers
Google and Sentry are US-based companies. Data transferred to them is subject to appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) adopted by the European Commission, and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where applicable.
7. Permissions
- Location (When In Use) — used to determine your city and coordinates for prayer time calculations and mosque searches. The app never accesses location in the background.
- Notifications — used to send prayer time reminders. You can disable this at any time in device Settings.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
All data stored by the app is kept locally on your device.
Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. We do not
operate servers that hold your personal data.
Error data sent to Sentry is retained for 90 days per Sentry's
default retention policy, after which it is automatically deleted.
9. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, you have the following rights:
- Right of access (Art. 15) — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification (Art. 16) — request correction of inaccurate data. You can update your location directly in the app's Settings.
- Right to erasure (Art. 17) — request deletion of your data. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. Contact us to request deletion of any error data held by Sentry.
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18) — request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability (Art. 20) — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object (Art. 21) — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at erdemozgedik@icloud.com. We will respond within 30 days.
10. Right to Lodge a Complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. For example:
11. Children's Privacy
Waqti is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction).
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. For significant changes, we will notify users through the app or the App Store / Google Play listing.
